Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes discussed the Juraj Slafkovsky issue during his appearance on the Ray and Dregs Podcast, from theTSN network.

At the moment, Hughes says he is disappointed with his performance.

"We'll see how he progresses. I thought his two prep games were a little disappointing for his level of play, but in Buffalo with the rookies, he was good."

Clearly, the youngster lacks consistency.

"In our intrasquad games, he created more scoring chances than any other player, by a lot. So he was really good in a lot of games, but obviously there's consistency to work on."

Will he play with the Habs next season?

"We're going to do what's best for him. As we said at the draft, we weren't looking for the best 18-year-old, we were looking for the best long-term player. Regardless of whether the decision is popular or not, we're going to decide what we think is best."
