There has been a terrible update regarding Nick Robertson and his future in the NHL.

Robertson's Recent Struggles

Nick Robertson's career thus far has been rather tragic. Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2019 draft, Robertson instantly looked like a steal posting 55 goals in 46 games in his first season after being drafted.

However, the following years were plagued with injuries that prevented him from making the NHL. In 2021-22, Robertson was at a point-per-game in the AHL and looked primed to make the NHL jump in 2022-23 but an injury in December limited him to just 17 games, 15 of which were in the NHL.

Terrible Robertson Update

Recently, Leafs reporter Luke Fox did a mailbag and answered a question on Robertson that does not look good for his future.

"Well, the cap-pressed Leafs are once again carrying a tight roster (likely fewer than 23 bodies), and the soon-to-be-22-year-old Robertson is once again exempt from waivers, plus he hasn't played a game since suffering his season-ending shoulder injury on Dec. 8.

A peek at Toronto's left-wing depth chart shows that Robertson will have to outduel Tyler Bertuzzi, Max Domi, Matthew Knies and, say, Sam Lafferty to secure a spot. Among that group, only Knies is exempt from waivers, and his post-season revealed a cap-friendly NHLer." - Luke Fox on Robertson's chances of making the Leafs

Considering those ahead of him on the depth chart, Robertson is looking less and less likely to make the team despite his upside. He will be 22 next season and still could become a top-six winger but he will need to stay healthy in order to make any sort of impact.

As seen on Maple Leafs Insider - If you're looking for Robertson to make the Leafs out of camp, one report has some bad news for you
