Connor Hellebuyck Discusses Uncertain Future with the Jets

One thing's for sure, the number of decisions with the Winnipeg Jets need to make with their roster over the next year is huge. Big names will be free agents at the end of the 2022-23 season, names the Jets likely need to move on from before losing them for nothing. That means a reset, rebuild, or retooling is in the cards, whatever you want to call it. Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. a rock for the team over the years, doesn't want to be around for it if that's the plan.

Hellebuyck was asked about his plans Saturday and said he really wants a Cup before he's done, and he's not sure that's going to happen with Winnipeg.

"My main goal is to win a Stanley Cup. I'm starting to run out of time," said Hellebuyck.

"I'm not interested in a rebuild," he added. "I just want to compete. I enjoyed myself more in 5 (playoff) games than I did all year. It's like a high you gotta' chase. You can't replicate that anywhere else except in the playoffs."

It's hard to blame Hellebuyck for wanting to win. At 29 years of age, he's right that there isn't a whole lot of time left, especially as a starter. It's an impossible decision for Winnipeg. Move on from your star goaltender and admit that the team is in full rebuild mode, or try to chase a playoff run for one more season and risk losing big names for nothing in free agency.
