With the Hurricanes and the Leafs potentially both needing major shake-ups, we could see them become partners for a blockbuster trade this offseason.

Blockbuster Trade Proposal Involving Marner To The Hurricanes

It is no secret that the Leafs and the Hurricanes both cannot get over the hump. While the Leafs' hump is the 2nd round, the Hurricanes' is the 3rd round. There have been many rumors swirling around involving the core four and potentially moving one of them.

A recently proposed trade has gotten a lot of interest for how practical it is for both sides.

While it is a lot to take in at first, further thought makes one think this could work for both sides.

While the Hurricanes undoubtedly get the best player in the deal, they also give up enough assets to compensate for that.

Brett Pesce is an upper echelon top 4 defenseman who focuses on defense that has one year left on his contract. Stefan Noesen is on a league-minimum deal but provides an excellent net front and has finally found his keep in the NHL in the Hurricanes' bottom six. The two biggest pieces, Seth Jarvis and the 30th overall pick have the most upside. Jarvis is an up-and-coming two-way forward who finished out the season on the Hurricanes' top line and getting substantial penalty kill time. The 30th pick could be anybody and in a loaded draft class, it could be a potential superstar.

The Hurricanes in return get the perennial Selke candidate and a three-time 90+ point scorer would immediately be the Hurricanes' best offensive weapon and could be a major upgrade in the Hurricanes' top six.

In addition to taking on Marner, the Hurricanes would also be taking on a total of about $5 million in cap space which would allow the Leafs to resign Michael Bunting or maybe somebody else like Tyler Bertuzzi.
