Andrey Michkov, father of 2023 NHL Draft Prospect Matvei, has been found dead in Russia.

Father of Matvei Michkov Found Dead

Michkov was reported missing, having not been seen since April 2nd, having left his family house that evening. Michkov was found deceased in a pool, according to Russian sports outlet Sport Express.

HC Sochi, which had been loaning the younger Michkov from SKA St. Petersburg, said the team was assisting in the search for his missing father, and the club later put out a statement confirming the passing.

Matvei Michkov had enjoyed a massive resurgence after a loan move to Sochi, having scored 9 Goals and 20 Points in 27 Games with the club after his loan, his totals breaking the all-time KHL PTS record by a Draft Eligible, previously held by Vladimir Tarasenko.

Michkov is currently ranked as a projected Top-5 prospect by most major scouting sites, however, his draft stock had been questioned by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which made Michkov miss out on international play due to the IIHF's ban on the Russian team at the World Juniors.

Andrei Michkov was 52.
